Mike Slys, founder of Lodestar STEM Academy

Why Mike Started Lodestar STEM Academy

Michael Slys has dedicated his career to inspiring young minds as a science educator, school administrator, and coach for nearly thirty years. Throughout his decades of leadership in education, he has remained deeply committed to cultivating student growth, academic excellence, and positive school culture.

At the core of his educational philosophy is a servant leadership mindset—leading through service, empathy, and active listening to support teachers, families, and students. Mike strongly advocates for project-based learning, believing in a "learning by doing" approach that transforms students from passive learners into active, self-directed problem solvers. Grounded in whole-human development, Mike prioritizes mindfulness, authenticity, and self-awareness in every learning environment he creates.
